The american Dream: An Idea

The cartoon above shows a father telling his children that in american anyone can be anything they want when they grow up. This represents what the American Dream really is: an idea. People from all around the world thought that in america if you work hard you could get a good job and get a good place to live in. The truth was other because many immigrants live in really poor conditions because the works they had were those ones that are in the lower level, like cleaning bathrooms or tables at a restaurant. At that time it was difficult to get a good job.

A father always want his son to be better than him...

This images shows how dedicated the fathers were to their children, and specially if it was his son because he wanted his son to be more successful than him and achieve all the things that he couldn't achieve. After all, his son would represent his family in the future.

The image shows a mother reading a bedtime story to their children. However the picture also doesn't show the father of the children, which could mean that the father had not arrive in time and he would come later to their house. The mother was responsible of the children almost all the time.

After a long day of work...

In the picture we can see how a girl opens the doors of the house to receive his father after a long day of work. At that time people used to work for long periods of time and used to return late to their homes. Some fathers also went to another city to sell things to more people. The picture shows that children were used to receiving their fathers from time to time and did this showing happiness. It didn't matter if the sales were low because your daughter would always receive you like a champion.

The components have been part of the American Dream since it began and if you saw someone with an expensive house and lots of money you could say that that person had accomplished the American Dream.
